About the Band
The Columbus Pops Concert Band was formed in 1980. The original philosophy of the group was to play music that was familiar to and appreciated by the masses. This would make performances more enjoyable for the musicians (as well as the audience). On a given night, you may hear marches, big band, Broadway tunes, movie themes, and perhaps even some classical thrown in.
The Pops Band is now under the direction of Thomas Slack. A member of the band since 1991, he took over directing duties following the retirement of Jim Keena in 1997.
The Pops Band is a volunteer group with members from all reaches of Central Ohio and a variety of musical backgrounds. Rehearsals are held weekly in Reynoldsburg (see more info below).
